Whiteout Survival Gathering Guide – Best Heroes, Skills & Speed Boosts
Gathering resources is one of the most important parts of Whiteout Survival. The faster you gather, the easier it is to keep up with costly building upgrades, troop training, and research. This guide covers everything you need to know: from the best heroes and troop setups to boosts, pets, and alliance perks.
🔑 Key Ways to Speed Up Gathering
Use the best gathering heroes and upgrade their expedition skills
Understand troop load mechanics
Research Economy Tech Tree upgrades
Increase VIP level for more marches
Unlock boosts through Island perks, Pets, City Skins, and Alliance bonuses
Apply Gathering Speed Boost cards for instant efficiency
🌲Resources in Whiteout Survival
There are four key resources: Meat, Wood, Coal, and Iron. Each is important for the next upgrade and requirements increase as you upgrade to the next level, with building upgrades and troop training requiring larger amounts at higher levels.
Ways to obtain Resources
- Resource production is done in your city and can leverage Economy Tech Tree with research upgrades
- Gathering resources on the map is the primary way to collect resources.
- The second-best way is to gather resources from your farm using our Whiteout Survival Farm Account Guide!
- Lastly, you can attack enemies for resources, but this may cost you more in troop losses and healing.
🦸Best Heroes for Gathering Resources & Skills
4heroes specialize in gathering and provide up to +25% speed when their expedition skills are leveled to 4★
- Cloris - Meat - up to 25% meat gathering speed
- Eugene - Wood - up to 25% meat gathering speed
- Charlie - Coal - up to 25% coal gathering speed
- Smith - Iron - up to 25% iron gathering speed
⚠️ Tip: The game auto-selects the best hero for the first slot, but if they’re busy marching, it may pick the wrong one. Always double-check your march. For maximum efficiency, leave the 2nd and 3rd slots empty unless you need extra troop capacity.
💡 Pro Tip for Events: Start gathering before an event begins. Recall your troops right after the server reset for free extra points.

Resource Gathering Troop Load
- Troop level determines carry capacity (heroes don’t affect it).
- Unlike some games, there’s no advantage to using Tier 1 troops.
- Lancers have the highest troop load → best for gathering. This doesn't mean faster gatherer.
- Using fewer troops minimizes losses if attacked during gathering.
📚Research for Gathering Speed
In the Economy Tech Tree, you can unlock gathering speed boosts for each resource type. This research is crucial for long-term efficiency.
⭐VIP increases Gathering Speed
Increasing the number of march queues will increase gathering. 5 marches can be accomplished with the Research Center and VIP. You can purchase packs for a 6th queue.
🏝️Island Gathering Speed Boosts
In Day Break Island there are gathering speed boost with rare decorations. I usually prefer to focus on military boosts in the island but if you are looking to rank consistently, you will need these.
🐂Pets increase Gathering Speed
- The Musk Ox pet has a special expedition skill that instantly completes a resource tile.
- Send it to a high-level node (like Level 8 Iron) for maximum efficiency—you don’t even need to bring the hero Smith either.
⚡Gathering Speed Boost cards
Using gathering speed boosts can be purchased and leveraged to increase gathering speeds by 100%. Yes, this is collecting resources 2x faster than normal. These need to be applied before starting your march to the resource tile.
- 8hr Gathering Speed Boost – 250 Gems
- 24 Gathering Speed Boost – 600 Gems
🏙️City Skin to increase Gathering Speeds
Some city skins increase gathering speed. For example:
Winter of Plenty (+5% Resource Gathering Speed) unlocks after reaching 4M power in an early event.
Keep an eye on new skins as the game progresses.
🤝Alliance Perks for Resource Gathering
Being inside your alliance territory provides gathering buffs:
- Alliance Research: Growth tab → Gathering I & II (boosts unlocked via tech donations)
- Facilities: Capturing a Level 1 Gathering Facility grants a +5% Resource Gathering Boost (higher levels give more).
